Stücke kommen raus und lernen alles, außer Konkurs

Eine programmiert grundierte Nummer - nennen wir sie "Neumond inselhin" – mit langen Augenbrauen und schöngezeichneten Wimpern, aufrechten Ganges, von besten Haltungsnoten an ihren Ohrringen kaum runtergezogen, tritt aus der Kammerflimmer-Kollektief-Schallplatte "Cicadidae" hinaus auf den Markt. Da will sie lernen, wie sie was werden kann, was sie noch nicht ist: was Erfahrenes statt was Gemachtes. Sie nimmt sich also, wie das meiste aus der Musik, das heute richtig lebendig werden will gleich den vielen zuckenden Sachen aus Zellen und Wasser, ein gutes Beispiel an den Seelen der Leute hier unten auf dem Markt, wo wir die ganze Zeit alle auf neue Musik warten. Unser aller Seelen nämlich haben ja auch mal jenseits dieser andauernden Call Center und kleinen, heimlichen Jobs, jenseits der weißen Magie des Mitmachens und der verschiedenen grundnormalen Arbeitslosigkeiten und Steuern angefangen. Jenseits, im Himmel, waren wir alle noch vollweiß und trotzdem durchsichtig - das war, bevor wir leiblich wurden. Die Nummer ist interessiert an der großen Welt diesseits, die ein Haus ist, eben der Markt. Eine Streicherwelle in ihrem Herzen will möglichst bald überall hin; sie spricht den Zauberspruch mit, den Clive Barker für "Abarat" erfunden hat: der sagt, daß es zwei Kräfte gibt, die alle Seelen beherrschen, die eine ist Gott, die andere das Leben der Gezeiten. Die Nummer will aber auch nicht immer nur auf dem Laufenden sein, in ihr zupft es manchmal sehr. Ein Jittergeräusch ist ihre Unruhe, ein indisches Wort ohne esoterischen Hippie-Schwiemel könnte der Name eines Menschen sein, mit dem sie sich zu unterhalten wüßte: "Govindasvamin" etwa, oder "Tvaschtri", sowas, was gut klingt. Nachdem die Nummer zwei schiefe Korridore lang gegangen ist und die soziale Marktwirtschaft durchquert hat, wo das Licht flackert, als ob es bald ausgehen wollte, begegnet ihr vor einer Türe, auf der "Zinsen" steht, eine andere Nummer mit verwischtem Haaransatz und langen bleichen Armen. Sie stellt sich sexy lispelnd als "Sie tranken Regen" vor und pustet danach der andern ein höflich mulmiges Country-Music-Gefühl ins Ohr, woraufhin sie beieinander einhaken. Aus dem Teppich, auf dem sie durch Codekanäle gehen wie auf unechten Wolkenumhüllungen, steigt vergeigter Nebel und will "Über die Wasserscheide" werden, was, wie die beiden zugeben, auch kein unbequemer Titel für ein Stück in dieser Umgebung ist. Zu dritt gehen sie also die gewundene Bundesschatzbrief-Treppe hoch. Auf den Geländern sitzen viele Rentner, erstklassige Wählerstimmen. Ein Kolibri, von Annette Peacock vorkomponiert, den die Geschwister "Blood" nennen und bei sich haben wollen, weil er mal ein Pfau war, fliegt mit und ist auch Musik. Er setzt sich abwechselnd auf die Schulter der andern Stücke, die den Markt noch nicht satt haben.

Im zweiten Stock gibt es am Treppenabsatz einen Kiosk, da arbeitet eine Verwandte, deren Namensschild liest sich: "...denn Nacht ist jetzt schon bald." Sie reicht, im leisen Bimmeln und Klingeln gut erzogen, den Suchenden eine Dose Liquidität. Von der wird "Sie tranken Regen" verwandelt, zu ihrer eigenen übersetzten Version. Aus einem Bargeld-Schlafzimmer taumelt den Suchenden plötzlich eine frierende Verwandte vor die Füße. Sie wird "Mantra" gerufen, ruft gern zurück und weiß doch kaum was von sich selber - außer daß sie verhalten schnaufen will, wenn sie daran denkt, woher sie kommt, aber das Schnaufen, das sie dann wirklich von sich gibt, rasselt sehr schön: wie ein Täschchen voller feiner Ketten aus dem verschwiegensten Silber, das lieber doch kein Geld hat werden wollen.

Das lange umgekippte Dach des Marktes ist von innen ein verkehrtes Restaurant. Hier setzen sich die Suchschwestern, Stücke aus derselben Platte, zusammen an einen sehr langen Tisch, wo sie bedient werden mit durchgehalten-überbackenen Tastensignalen und einem süßsauren Schwellenkichern. Als Aushilfsbedienungen haben sich in diesem Laden die Geschwister "Eiderdaunen, gerupft" (von Beat gebräunt, in atheistische Entspannungsharmonik gekleidet) und "Irgendwann: Frühling" (ihre Doppelpunkte hat eine Beichtmutter geläutert, heilig genug für eine geräumige Fuchshöhle lächelt ihr Kratzen) notgedrungen verdingt. Wo sind die guten Jobs hin? Man hört nicht mehr viel davon; zum Glück aber noch Töne. Nach dem Essen kriegt jede einzelne Nummer ein Gewicht mit auf den Weg. Sie brechen auf, in die Erlösung, die hinter der Tür wartet, welche aus dem Dachrestaurant des Marktes hinausführt. Hier ist alles Himmel, aber anders als Herkunft. Oben sind Vögel, die mit dem Kopf nach unten an mehreren Sorten Windverlauf hängen, die man alle nicht untereinander tauschen kann. Die Sonne scheint; aber es ist gar nicht die Sonne: es ist der Mond. Wann eigentlich wurde es Nacht?

Songs Come Out and Learn Everything (Except Bankruptcy)

A song with a programmed base (let's call her "New Moon Towards an Island") with long eyebrows, painted eyelashes, and a stiff gait, steps out of the Kammerflimmer Kollektief record "Cicadidae" and onto the market, weighed down slightly by her earrings from the best performance marks. Once there, she wants to learn how she can become what she isn't quite yet: something experienced rather than something made. So she takes inspiration from the souls of the people down here at the market, where we wait for new music all the time. Like the best music of today, she wants to become truly alive — like every twitching thing made of cells and water. All of our souls once started out beyond those eternal Call Centers and little, secretive jobs - beyond the white magic of participation and the various humdrum unemployments and taxes.

Beyond, in Heaven, we were all completely white, yet transparent — that is, before we became physical. The song is interested in the great world of the here and now, which is a building (which is the market). A wave of strings in her heart wants to go everywhere as soon as possible; she speaks the magic spell that Clive Barker invented for "Abarat." She says, "there are two forces that control all souls: one of them is God, the other one is the life of the tides."

But the song doesn't always want to be up-to-date. Sometimes she feels pulled by this internal urge. A jittery noise agitates her, an Indian word without an esoteric hippie drinking buddy might be the name of a human being with whom she could converse: "Govindasvamin," for example, or "Tvaschtri" - something like that, something that sounds good.

After the song has walked down two crooked corridors and crossed the Social Market Economy where the light is flickering as if it's about to go out, she comes across a door with "interest" written on it, another song with a blurry hairline and long, pale arms. He introduces himself as "They Drank The Rain", lisping sexily, and then exhales into her ear a politely uncomfortable sensation of country music, whereupon they slip their arms through each other's. There is violin-laden fog rising up from the carpet where they walk through code channels as if on fake veils of clouds. The fog wants to become "Over the Watershed" which, as both of them agree, is not an uncomfortable title for a song in this environment. So the three of them walk up the winding steps to the Federal Bond. Several retirees sit on the railings - first-class votes. A hummingbird (pre-composed by Annette Peacock), which the siblings call "Blood" and like to have around because it used to be a peacock, is flying along and is music too. It takes turns sitting on the other songs' shoulders, the ones who aren't yet fed up with the market.

On the third floor, there's a kiosk on the stair landing, and there's a relative who works there whose nametag reads: "...since it will be Night soon." Well-steeped in mellow ringing and jingling, she hands out to the seekers a can of liquidity. That helps transform "They Drank the Rain" into its own, translated version.

A freezing relative suddenly tumbles out from a cash bedroom and lands in front of the seekers feet. She is called "Mantra", and she likes to call back. Yet she knows almost nothing about herself except that she wants to breathe in a restrained manner, if she thinks about where she comes from. But the wheezing she's uttering instead rattles very nicely, like a little purse filled with fine necklaces made of the most secretive silver that rather prefers not to become money after all.

The long, tipped-over roof of the market is a topsy-turvy restaurant on the inside. Here the seeking sisters — songs from the same record — sit together at a very long table where they are served with sustained and overcooked key signals and a sweet and sour borderline giggle. The sisters "Egg feathers, plucked" (browned by beat and dressed in aesthetic relaxation harmony) and "Sometime: Spring" (her punctuation was sanctified by a priestess, her scratching smiles sacred enough for a spacious foxhole) have made a living as temp waitresses in this place out of necessity.

Where did the good jobs go? You don't hear much about them anymore; but luckily there are still sounds. After the meal, each song gets a weight to take along. They hit the road towards salvation, which is waiting behind the door that leads out of the roof-terrace restaurant of the market. Here everything is Heaven, but different from the origin. Up above are birds that hang on different kinds of jet streams with their heads down, not to be interchanged. The sun is shining, but it's not really the sun: it's the moon.
